As part of the medical component of the project "Improving the Protection of Children in Emergencies in Ukraine by Providing Safe Shelters, Food and Non-Food Items, and Psychosocial Support", the Charitable Organization "Charity Fund "Medical Aid Committee in Zakarpattya" donated a shipment of medical equipment to the City Hospital No. 9 of the Zaporizhzhia City Council.
The city hospital provides round-the-clock medical care for newborns. The intensive care unit has 6 beds dedicated to treating complex neonatal cases. Currently, there is a need for an open resuscitation system with an infrared heater, servo-control, and a radiant heat source for full-term newborns, where intensive care can be provided, rapid access to the newborn is ensured when necessary, and therapeutic and diagnostic procedures can be performed. An additional air-oxygen mixer is required for oxygen and aerosol therapy, inhalations, or mechanical ventilation.
According to the healthcare facility, the neonatal intensive care unit is equipped with a sufficient number of patient monitors, but there is a need for additional consumables, which wear out fairly quickly. This primarily refers to cuffs of various sizes for measuring noninvasive blood pressure.
In light of the hospital’s genuine needs, the Medical Aid Committee in Zakarpattya purchased and sent an infrared heater for newborns, an air-oxygen mixer, and cuffs for a neonatal monitor to Zaporizhzhia. This equipment is already helping to significantly improve the quality of medical care for newborns, improve their prognosis, and enhance treatment outcomes.
The project "Improving the Protection of Children in Emergencies in Ukraine by Providing Safe Shelters, Food and Non-Food Items, and Psychosocial Support" is being implemented by the Charitable Organization "Charity Fund "Medical Aid Committee in Zakarpattya" with the support of "terre des hommes Deutschland e.V." and funding from the German Federal Foreign Office.
