Creating a public space that would serve as a hub for the ideas and initiatives of active citizens has long been a dream of the Medical Aid Committee in Zakarpattya. The organization’s team worked on bringing this vision to life for several years, and finally, in November 2025, with financial support from France’s leading charitable network "Fondation de France," the Medical Aid Committee in Zakarpattya acquired a suitable facility.
This refers to a complex of buildings in the village of Nyzhnye Selyshche, Khust district, where the "House of Civic Initiatives" community space will be located in the future. Currently, architects are finalizing the project, which, in addition to its functional aspects, incorporates all inclusion standards—meeting requirements for accessibility and equality in the use of available resources and restroom facilities.
The facility will also be energy self-sufficient. As part of the "PHENIX – Strengthening the Resilience of Essential Services in Ukraine through a Decarbonized and Sustainable Energy Supply" project, which is being jointly implemented by the organization "Electricians without borders" and the Medical Aid Committee in Zakarpattya in partnership with the NGO "Transcarpathian Association of Local Development" with financial support from the French Development Agency (Agence Française de Développement, AFD), all buildings will be powered by a hybrid solar power plant.

The House of Civic Initiatives is designed, among other things, to host training sessions, other public events, themed camps, and collaborative project work. To achieve this, conditions are being created to accommodate lodging, teamwork, and conferences alike.

The need for such a space is driven by significant demand from -governmental organizations that are that plan or implement humanitarian, social, educational, and infrastructural projects, organize training for specialized experts, conduct team-building sessions and so on.
