Once again, partners from the NGO "Iskra Dobra" organized an interesting master class, which brought together wonderful children at the "Mystery" pastry shop in Chernihiv. These are the children of fallen Heroes, who learned how to make delicious pastries and summer drinks. The Medical Aid Committee in Zakarpattya supported the event with financial support from the Association «Network Switzerland – Transcarpathia/Ukraine» (NeSTU).
The event was prepared for Children’s Day. And despite the fact that, starting in 2025, the holiday will be moved to November 20 by presidential decree, the master class took place and left warm memories for the young participants. The training was led by the head of the NGO "Iskra Dobra" and professional chef Ihor Kukobko. Together with his colleagues, he taught the children how to bake cupcakes and cookies and prepare refreshing summer drinks. The kids not only cooked, but also enjoyed the delicious treats.
"This master class was about more than just food. We talked, had fun, and everyone was happy to get covered in flour and dough, but every child also knew that they weren’t just having fun, they were doing something useful. We prepared about 500 units of various pastries – cupcakes and cookies – and donated them all to children from frontline settlements in the Chernihiv region. In other words, our event combined meaningful leisure activities, new skills, and a humanitarian mission. It seems that everything worked out", says Ihor Kukobko.
This is not the first event organized by the NGO "Iskra Dobra" and supported by the Medical Aid Committee in Zakarpattya. There were also New Year and Christmas master classes and ongoing food support for people affected by the war in various regions of Ukraine. Special attention is always paid to children, whose vulnerable categories are constantly expanding due to the war. We have children who have lost one of their parents due to russian military attacks, those who have lost their homes or were forced to leave them due to the security situation, children wounded as a result of shelling... All this is a terrible pain for every adult, but it is also an incentive to do everything possible to preserve childhood for Ukrainian children – safe, joyful, and full of positive experiences.
