Almost 62,500 portions of hot lunches were prepared in April by a food truck team in the Sumy region as part of the "Food Without Borders" initiative. In total, the initiative, launched by the NGO "Iskra Dobra" at the end of January 2025, has resulted in more than 200,000 portions of delicious meals being served to date.
"Food Without Borders" is a program made possible by the joint efforts of philanthropists, business representatives, media workers, and volunteers. This synergy allows to provide daily food support to IDPs, evacuated residents of frontline settlements, as well as military personnel, medics, rescuers, and law enforcement officers who are dealing with the aftermath of enemy shelling. We know not from the news that after every shelling and air strike, particularly in Sumy, chefs and their assistants from the food truck work on site, feeding, supporting, and delivering food to hospitals, etc.
"In April, we all together prepared 62,476 portions of hot lunches and baked over 4,000 Easter cakes. Like the meals, they were distributed at the food truck, delivered to hospitals and shelling sites, and we also organized feeding stations during evacuations. Our menu is always varied – it includes different porridges, vegetable salads, fish and pork cutlets, our signature baked chicken, and fresh bread that we bake ourselves. We try to make the dishes taste as homemade as possible", says food truck chef Oleh Bibikov.
Medical Aid Committee in Zakarpattya, with the support of partners from the Association SAFE (France) and the Association "Network Switzerland – Transcarpathia / Ukraine" (NeSTU) (Switzerland), is part of the project. Its mission is currently of great social and humanitarian importance. The war is destroying human lives in real time, taking away the most precious things – life, health, and homes. Supporting the defense forces and the affected population is everyone’s duty, and we are doing this in whatever way we can. Once, our partners from the NGO "Iskra Dobra" said that they were best at cooking and wanted to use this skill to help people during the war. This has been successful in the Kherson, Chernihiv, and Kharkiv regions, and is now working in the Sumy region. Join us – the food truck team always needs extra hands and large quantities of vegetables!
