Chernihiv region and, in particular, the regional center of Chernihiv, have been suffering from the devastation of the full-scale russian-Ukrainian war since its first days. A part of the border region was under occupation, many local residents lost their homes and became displaced, and those who stayed and returned are rebuilding their native settlements. Medical Aid Committee in Zakarpattya and its partners support the Chernihiv residents in their important mission.
Once again, the humanitarian aid with construction materials has arrived in Chernihiv, which the Committee’s local partners are promptly handing over to people to repair their homes and damaged civilian infrastructure.
"During the distribution, the families shared their thoughts on how they plan to use the aid. Some said they would repair the stairs, others – the children’s room or kitchen. People are full of hope and enthusiasm, and we are glad that we can help them rebuild their lives, and we are waiting for photos with their realized plans", say the volunteers of the NGO "The Unity of Chernihiv".
Unfortunately, the situation near the front line is disappointing, as local residents are not only rebuilding their destroyed homes, but also repairing the consequences of the current "arrivals" of enemy shells. Recently, the town of Semenivka in Chernihiv Oblast was heavily damaged by russian missiles – several residential high-rise buildings were destroyed, and the bus station, hospital, and other civilian infrastructure were damaged. The Committee’s partners from the NGO "Iskra Dobra" were working in Semenivka, and humanitarian aid was also sent there from Zakarpattia.
This assistance was made possible thanks to the assistance of the Association "SAFE" (France), which has not for the first time found an opportunity to send construction and consumable materials to Ukraine. By the way, in the photo of the unloading of the construction materials in Chernihiv, you can see an indispensable assistant of Chernihiv volunteers – an excavator, which also arrived from France almost a year ago and immediately went from Uzhhorod to clear the rubble and transport large-sized debris so that the walls of the homes of civilians in Chernihiv could be restored in their place.
