The events of the Travelling International Documentary Film Festival on Human Rights Docudays UA are ending in Zakarpattia.

The beginning of the festival was marked by the screening of the movie "Bellingcat: Truth in the Post-Truth World" and a discussion with the participation of Mykhaylo Makaruk, the spokesman for the international volunteer community "Inform Napalm".

The next day they watched and talked about the movie "Sakava" from the Netherlands. At the ILKO Gallery the film introduces three Ghanaian youngsters who, out of desperation, turn to internet scamming with the help of black magic. Ama is a young mother and a newcomer on the scene. ‘OneDollar’ tries to save the money to travel to Italy. Francis, who is the most experienced, teaches the others on the tricks of the trade. What is viewed in the West as fraud is seen by the Sakawa boys as the exploitation of available resources. These resources come in the form of electronic waste, dumped in Ghana by the West.

The problem of tolerance, which was celebrated on November 16 by the world, became an additional theme of the film.

“A tolerant person is a person with moral, spiritual values and qualities. As Alexander Dovzhenko wrote, a person must be a Person. This statement indicates that each of us should reflect on our attitude towards others, be able to properly support one another, respect people, listen to other opinions and views. In the movie Sakawa, we saw a kind of self-reflection. Our societies have a very characteristic phenomenon of racism against blacks and other foreigners. However, the inequality in the world has given rise to similar racism against whites. Unfortunately, ignorance and hatred of others are inherent for us as well. The recent case of foreign students in Uzhhorod has shown our level of tolerance… ”, said Natalia Kabatsiy, the co-organizer of the event, Director of the Medical Aid Committee in Zakarpattia.

Actually, digital security specialist from Digital Security School 380 (Internews-Ukraine) Pavlo Belousov became an expert in discussing security and privacy issues on the Internet. The audience talked about how to protect themselves from excessive information gathering and reduce the risk of hacking. They also raised the issue of opening and manipulating information sources. The phishing attacks responsible for over 90% of successful cyber attacks became the number one discussed issue.

As part of the discussion, experts identified the main features of the online phishing:

  1. Unnatural / fake sender address;
  2. Non-personal appeal (if attack is massive, not targeted) and "generalized" / strange signature;
  3. The importance of content is emphasized;
  4. Urgent action;
  5. Errors in text and inaccuracies in design;
  6. Fake or masked link;
  7. Suspicious attachment.

At the same time, it is important to know how to protect yourself from the hassle of the Internet, namely:

  1. Be attentive;
  2. Check the sender's address and watch the original;
  3. Do not go immediately but check the links;
  4. Check on an alternative communication channel, not in the same letter;
  5. Do not open files immediately but scan them for viruses;
  6. Go to the service sites from the Favorites or manually enter the address;
  7. Check the SSL certificate of the site;
  8. Have a modern and up-to-date browser and mail client;
  9. Consult with colleagues / professionals in case of suspected phishing.

On the closing day, the three documentaries were screened: "Biotope", "Between", "Facade Color - Blue". When it came to films, the discussion was about cultural activism and modernism. Modernist and urbanism expert Olexiy Bykov shared his expert opinions on the issue. Together with the audience he answered the question whether there is a place for cultural activism in today's life, how it is possible to preserve the cultural heritage and create a new one, such as modernism and so on.

"I have heard and been familiar with your active group "Uzhhorod-modernism". And I want to express my admiration for their activity - they work very professionally and consistently," - Olexiy Bykov said.

By asking “Allow the app to alter your consciousness?” this year’s Festival topic contemplates how our everyday lives, habits, and ways of communication have changed since the development of digital technology. What new opportunities does it open for our exploration of reality? And, at the same time, what kind of threats related to control and information security is it hiding? Next year, we will set new highlights and focus our attention on pressing issues that will affect each of us, and we will again work together to address the challenges and risks of today.
