The PHENIX project, aimed at strengthening the sustainability of Ukraine’s energy future, is continuing in Zakarpattia. The project’s activities are concentrated in the village of Nyzhnye Selyshche in the Khust district, and its target infrastructure includes healthcare and educational institutions and small agricultural enterprises in the community.

Currently, Nataliya Yushchenko, an expert from the international non-governmental organization "Primavera", is working in Nyzhnye Selyshche, conducting analytical research and collecting data on locations for the future implementation of agrivoltaics (a dual-use land technology that integrates renewable energy sources with agricultural systems and technologies).

As part of the study "Territorial analysis of sustainable agricultural practices and possible integrated approaches to the introduction of alternative energy sources in small agricultural enterprises in Ukraine", the specialist is studying the characteristics of agricultural production and land use, the impact of climate change and war on water and energy supply in agricultural production, the prospects for the development of alternative energy with a focus on solar power plants, the structure of land use in the community, local water resources, the specifics of agricultural activities carried out by residents of Nyzhnye Selyshche, etc. 

The expert familiarized herself with the approved sites where solar power plants will be installed – a cheese factory and a cannery – and met with active members of the Nyzhnye Selyshche community, including residents who are engaged in personal farming, agribusiness, implement socially relevant projects, etc.

The technical tasks of this study are being carried out in cooperation with representatives of the Khust City Territorial Community and the Nyzhnye Selyshche Starost District.

The PHENIX project is being implemented jointly by "Electricians without borders" and the Medical Aid Committee in Zakarpattya in partnership with the NGO "Transcarpathian Association of Local Development" with financial support from the French Development Agency (Agence Française de Développement, AFD).
