3 new workshops – ceramics, weaving and felting – were arranged and a series of creative master classes were organised in the Vilshany Children Orphanage this spring.
Creation of a ceramic workshop became possible after a charity ball in support of the Vilshany Children Orphanage, which took place in the spring of 2018 in the Transcarpathian Regional State Administration. Uzhhorod artist Yulia Yegorova helped to launch the ceramic workshop, and she also held the first master classes on pottery.
For other two - weaving and felting workshops new premises were prepared and additional equipment was purchased. The long-time partner of the Committee, the social educator Barbara Schweingruber held master classes on weaving and helped to arrange a new workshop room. Upon completion of work in Vilshany, Barbara visited "Parasolka" Centre with the aim to train new employees of the institution.
At the painting master class, Angela Bucher-Kunz, together with Lyudmyla Volkova, a lecturer from the Borys Grinchenko Kyiv University taught new methods and techniques of drawing as a type of occupation for people with mental disorders.
The results of the workshops demonstrate the need to combine Ukrainian and Swiss methods in working with persons with disabilities, which contributes to significant progress, both in the development of clients of the Orphanage and in the professional work of the institution's staff.
