THE PROGRAM OF THIS YEAR’S FILM SCREENING IN UZHHOROD INCLUDED THE FOLLOWING FILMS:
Liturgy of Anti-Tank Obstacles, Dmytro Sukholytkyy-Sobchuk, Ukraine, 2022, 12 min.
Ukrainian reality is divided into two periods – before and after the war. In the national resistance, every citizen tries to help. Ukrainians change professions and adapt to the needs of wartime. Sculptors produce anti-tank obstacles in their workshops. Like a "Terracotta Army", silent figures of famous Ukrainians, angels, Cossacks, as well as numerous copies of Jesus Christ, froze in anticipation of new works. Masters weld protective metal structures for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Fortress Mariupol. Orest, Yuliia Hontaruk, Ukraine, 2022, 18 min.
"Fortress Mariupol" is a series of films based on video calls to soldiers who were surrounded by the Russian army in Mariupol at the Azovstal plant. As the siege begins, the director talks to the soldiers of the Azov Regiment, revealing their portraits.
The hero of the film is Orest – a former communications officer and now the head of the press service of the Azov Regiment in Mariupol. Since the beginning of the Russian invasion, Orest has been covering the situation in the city and at the Azovstal, where he was captured by the Russians. Already after the release of the film, Dmytro was returned home after four months in captivity during a prisoner exchange.
A House Made of Splinters, Simon Lereng Wilmont, Denmark, Ukraine, Sweden, Finland, 2022, 87 min.
In a war-torn town in eastern Ukraine, there is a safe haven for children temporarily separated from their parents. "A House Made of Splinters" tells the story of three children who are awaiting a decision on their fate: to return to their old home, or to move to a new one. Meanwhile, dedicated social workers give the children moments of joy and peace and bring them back to their almost lost childhood. Following the success of his first feature film "The Distant Barking of Dogs", director Simon Lereng Wilmont returns to the theme of the long-term effects of war, and offers a deeper look at the impact of war on the most vulnerable part of society. This is a poignant and deeply intimate portrait of a temporary shelter full of attention, support and trust for children who desperately need it.
The partner of the festival and the organizer of the public screening of the program films in Uzhhorod is once again the Charitable Organization "Medical Aid Committee in Zakarpattya".
