A short history of great work resulting in delivery of 11 ambulances to Ukraine

10/06/2022

Four days have passed since the first of the 11 ambulances crossed the Ukrainian border and the last one reached its destination in Ukraine. As a result, 11 medical institutions in eight oblasts (regions) received new special vehicles from the Medical Aid Committee in Zakarpattya.

"The initiative came from Switzerland, where sympathetic people raised the necessary amount of money and passed to our old partners – Parasolka Association. Then our friends from France joined the process and organized the purchase of new ambulances. French drivers transported three trucks with the important cargo to the border region in Slovakia. Ten women drivers and a man driver from Uzhhorod delivered ambulance to Ukraine. Here is a short story of how that was possible, "said Nataliya Kabatsiy, the director of MACZ.

There are dozens of documents, logistics, participation of Committee’s friends in Slovakia behind the scenes of this story…

The further journey of ambulances was very fast. The next day, after the first eight ambulances has arrived to Uzhhorod, two of them went to Kharkiv region, five – to Donetsk region, Chernihiv, Dnipro, and Kyiv. Ukrainian writer Andriy Lyubka, his Serbian colleague Volodymyr Arsenievych and radio host Oleksiy Umanskyi drove vehicles ambulances to Derhachi and Blyznyuky, Kharkivska oblast. This creative crew was met by a writer Serhiy Zhadan. Doctors, volunteers, and representatives of local self-government from Mykolayiv, Zaporizhia, Kyiv, Dnipro, Bucha, Chernihiv, Slovyansk, and Kurakhiv arrived to Uzhhorod to take the rest of the vehicles. Medical equipment and humanitarian aid packages were delivered to the destinations together with the vehicles.

Generally, a great deal of well-coordinated work has been done. Some of our partners were driving vehicles of this size for the first time, some of them prepared a stack of necessary documents for the first time, others were involved in a long negotiation process. But the result of 11 new ambulances for Ukraine is worth all these efforts. We are grateful to everyone involved, to everyone who cares about the needs of Ukraine in this difficult time! Let's get together! By this we bring closer our victory and peaceful life, full of development and great achievements!
