Despite the fact that the Medical Aid Committee in Zakarpattya has been carrying out humanitarian activities related to the consequences of the Russian invasion since 2014, the day of February 24, 2022, made adjustments to the directions of the charitable organization’s wor
Since the first days of the full-scale invasion, the CO "MACZ" has been providing assistance to internally displaced persons, hundreds of thousands of whom were forced to leave their homes. We organized the purchase of blankets, mattresses, and other essentials, which we delivered to the places of temporary residence of IDPs. At the same time, together with international partners, the Committee launched the collection and transportation of humanitarian aid to Ukraine, which amounted to more than 250 trucks during the year of war. Their contents were changed and expanded in accordance with the urgent needs of Ukraine and Ukrainians – first warm clothes, hygiene products, food, then medicines and medical equipment for Ukrainian hospitals and clinics, then alternative energy sources..
.
According to our annual statistics, we have procured and donated about UAH 12 million worth of medicines to medical institutions, and more than 50 trucks of medical equipment have been transferred. In the summer, thanks to Swiss sponsors and partners from France, we purchased 11 new ambulances that were sent to Chernihiv, Dnipro, Kyiv, Derhachi and Blyznyuky in Kharkiv region, Mykolaiv, Zaporizhzhia, Bucha, Slovyansk and Kurakhove in Donetsk region.
A major project was the cooperation with partners from Canada, thanks to which Ukraine, through the CO "MACZ", received a huge cargo of anesthetics that regional health departments helped to send to the places of greatest need. The regions also received probiotics from partners in France.
At the end of 2022, the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs (France) supported the humanitarian initiative of the Charitable Organization "Medical Aid Committee in Zakarpattya" and became a financial partner in the implementation of the project for doctors and rescuers in Zaporizhzhia. As part of the project, the specialists received appropriate equipment and components.
Another figure is more than 400 generators of various capacities. The need for alternative energy sources is constantly increasing due to constant hostile shelling of Ukraine’s critical infrastructure. All the generators were promptly delivered to hospitals and social institutions, utilities that provide heat and water supply to the population, "points of invincibility", educational institutions, rescuers and medics... The geography of requests responded to by the Committee and partners is quite wide – from the de-occupied settlements of Kyiv, Chernihiv, Kherson, frontline Mykolaiv, Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, Donetsk regions to critical infrastructure and medical facilities in Odesa, Kyiv, Dnipro, etc.
Deepening the experience of working with internally displaced persons led to the decision to open three shelters in Zakarpattia – in Tyachiv, Nyzhnye Selyshche village in Khust district ("Selyskyy shelter") and in Uzhhorod. CO "MACZ" purchased three premises, which became temporary homes for about a hundred IDPs. Together with the local authorities in Tyachiv and a public initiative in Nyzhnye Selyshche, we organized the functioning of two remote facilities. In Uzhhorod, the temporary shelter "PrykhystOK" is taken care of by the Committee’s volunteers. In addition to a roof over their heads, IDPs receive humanitarian aid, medical and psychological support (if necessary).
The Medical Aid Committee in Zakarpattya responds to the challenges posed by the Russian military aggression on a daily basis. Thanks to contacts with a huge volunteer community throughout Ukraine, cooperation with state and local authorities, the Committee is able to quickly learn about needs and problems and deliver humanitarian aid just as quickly. CO "MACZ" receives the aid from partners from France, Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Canada, the Netherlands, Denmark and other countries with which the organization has been cooperating for over 23 years. We are convinced that together we can do more! So we continue to work for the sake of bringing Ukraine’s victory closer!
